English: Defamation is the process by which someone’s good name is damaged, often by intentionally or maliciously telling falsehoods. Blasphemy (or sacrilege) is the process by which a deity or holy person, object or place is dishonored, mostly through the vain use of a name. Blasphemy can be softened (for example jissie for Jesus, or gits for Gods), or made more harsh (such as jissis for Jesus, or gots for Gods). It is far less likely that blasphemies are intentionally created or used humorously.
